Biological wastewater treatment

Biological WWTP are usually considered as a “heart” of wastewater treatment process scheme. Treated wastewater quality depends a lot on effective operation of biological WWTPs

Operation of the most of sewerage treatment plants is connected with the following difficulties and problems:

  • Electric energy expenses;
  • Existing plants don’t provide the required treatment quality especially against biological compounds;
  • Biological treatment process is being carried out with breakdowns and failures (sludge carrying-out, filamentous swelling);
  • Process equipment is old and technically worn-down.

Ecopolymer Group can offer complete solution of the problems, emerged at WWTPs. To achieve the required results all works and activities can be accomplished within the following stages:

  1. Identification of WWTP negative operation causes.
  2. Development of biological treatment plant reconstruction technology.
  3. Step-by-step reconstruction.

    1ST STAGE – AERATION SYSTEM REPLACEMENT

    Normalization of oxidation process and nitrification. Decrease of power consumption. Improving both BOD and ammonia nitrogen removal.

    2ND STAGE – RECONSTRUCTION OF CLARIFIERS. REPLACEMENT OF AIRBLOWING EQUIPMENT

    Normalization of oxidation processes and nitrification. Decrease of power consumption.
    Improving both BOD and ammonia nitrogen removal.

    3RD STAGE – SEPARATION OF MIXING AREAS

    Biogenic compounds removal.
    Intensification of denitrification and phosphorus biological removal processes.
    Improving both BOD and ammonia nitrogen removal.

    4TH STAGE – CHEMICAL PHOSPHOROUS REMOVAL

    Biogenic compounds removal.
    Intensification of dephosphorization processes.
    Improving both BOD and ammonia nitrogen removal.

    5TH STAGE –  WASTEWATER AFTERTREATMENT

    Improvement of treated wastewater quality up to fish industry ponds requirements.

  4. Technological set-up of biological WWTPs.

Determination of inadequate WWTP operation causes

The following steps are carried out within this kind of works:

  • Examination of WWTP;
  • Estimation and modeling of WWTP operation by means of the modern methods and standards;
  • Determination of WWTP potential opportunities, both by capacity and treatment quality;
  • Conclusion presentation regarding WWTP opportunities by capacity and treatment quality.

Process design for biological treatment plants reconstruction

Within the development of existing biological WWTP reconstruction technology  maximal utilization of the existing capacity plants forms the basis of the technology. Due to that capital reconstruction expenditures are being reduced.

Ecopolymer Group specialists apply to the advanced world experience in the area of wastewater treatment. Based on the ASM2d international mathematical models and EAWAG bioP module it has been developed EcoSim, the original computer program, which allows to calculate the main indexes of treated water based on initial data regarding wastewater composition, architecture, characteristic, describing investigated treatment scheme.

Based on the obtained calculations optimal manufacturing scheme is developed using the existing capacity plants. If necessary step-by-step reconstruction plan and investment ground are also developed.

Reconstruction of clarifiers

We offer durable corrosion-resistant equipment and materials for secondary clarifiers reconstruction.

Equipment:
  • crest weirs;
  • central wells;
  • thin-layer units;
  • scrappers.

Application of above-mentioned materials allows to normalize and intensify the operation of secondary clarifiers:

  • to equalize hydraulic loadings;
  • to reduce sludge carryover and improve treatment quality.

Replacement of air-blowing equipment

Air-blowing equipment is one of the main power consumers at biological WWTPs. Application of the equipment with 40-100% control range allows to reduce power consumption, especially within minimal inflow hours. Air flow-rate control is manufacturing process is carried out automatically.

We accomplish an optimal selection of modern air-blowing equipment with wide control range.

Removal of biogenic compounds

The main technological problem of wastewater biological treatment from organic and biogenic compounds is the necessity of fundamentally different conditions for passing of these processes. Establishing of such conditions in activated sludge treatment systems requires the development of anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic zones, quantity and coherence of which are being determined by designed process scheme.

Arrangement of denitrification and phosphorus compounds removal systems:
  • modeling and calculation of aeration and mixing zones;
  • extraction of mixing zones in the existing aeration tank ;
  • installation of mixing and transfer equipment in tanks.

The following devices might be installed in mixing zones:
mechanical mixers, pneumatic hydraulic mixers.

In case of weak wastewater treatment one of the ways of phosphorous biological removal process effective execution is reconstruction of primary clarifiers for phosphorous removal basins:

Residual phosphorous chemical removal (in case of necessity):

Determination of inlet point, types and dosage of reagents.
