Reconstruction of plants with biofilters

For pre-treatment plants 2000-3000 mm high cylinders are used.

At conventional plants efficiency of BOD removal with the help of biofilters is much lower than at the plants using aeration tanks for wastewater treatment. The main disadvantage of biofilters run on the basis of mineral irregular filtering media is the growth of sludge over the filter surface.

Our company offers you an opportunity to improve the removal of BOD and suspended solids through the application of modern treatment configurations with secondary sludge recirculation and aeration, and polymer filtering media for biofilters.

The filtering media is produced in two types: Rashing rings (RR) and net frames (NF).

Filtering Media Type RR

Rashing rings made of polyethylene porous cylinders are used as filtering media for biofilters. The cylinders' outer diameter is 50-70 mm, wall thickness is 3-5 mm. Specific filtration area is 90-100 m2/m3.

Advantages:

  • porous structure enhances biofilm growth;
  • biofilter demonstrates stable operation after the start-up until it reaches the standard operation mode;
  • the rings can be loaded in bulk which significantly reduces the period required for installation of the media and simplifies installation;
  • the filtering media is made of cylinders of different sizes to prevent their silting.
  Filtering Media Type NF

The frames can be of trapezoid and three-cornered section

Net cylinder frames are produced of polyethylene or propylene with addition of light-stabilization substances. The outer diameters of the frames are 70 mm, 55 mm, 43 mm and 33 mm. Inner and outer threads with the diameter of 1,6-2,2 mm have irregular shape and are located at different distances and different angles of the pipe axis. The number of threads in frames is different.

Specific filtration area varies between 80 m2/m3 and 150 m2/m3.

Advantages:

  • High porosity and low hydrodynamic resistance;
  • Light weight makes installation quick and does not require very firm and rigid walls;
  • Filter bed is formed by the elements of different sizes for optimal use of the plant volume.

Application of the filtering media in aeration tanks, biofilters and pre-treatment reactors provides better treatment quality and reduces consumption of electric power. More than 60 types of the filtering media are produced for different applications.

  • Biofilter capacity becomes 2-4 times higher;
  • Better efficiency of natural aeration due to high porosity of the media (95-98%);
  • Specific filtration area is 3-4 times higher;
  • Opportunity to use light walls;
  • Significant reduction of installation expenses;
  • Quick reconstruction;
  • For aerofilters ventilator shutdown is possible.
